I liked volleyball BEFORE Charisse

There is not a lot going on in my life so I thought that I would let everyone know all the trivial things that have happened to me lately.
I have been quite an avid movie goer lately. I am proud to say that I haven't paid for one.
1. Angels and Demons, which I had no idea what it was about. I really enjoyed it though. I have heard that it has some major difference from the book that I didn't know about so I liked it.
2. Up, which I loved!! It was such a cute movie. I love the dog and the little kid! It was so fun!
3. Land of the Lost, I felt like my IQ dropped after that movie! I laughed at some of it but afterwards I was speechless. My mind was numb after that movie.
4. A Night at the Museum. I really liked this movie. I had heard bad things about this movie but I liked it. I had fun watching it and that is all that matters.
5. The Proposal. Apart from the two very awkward scenes, I thought it was a very funny movie. I was really sad that they kept the scenes that didn't have a lot to do with the movie. It would have been twice as good if they had kept them out.
It is much more fun to go to the movies when you don't have to pay for them :)

I have started playing volleyball. There is a big warehouse type place about 20 minutes from our house that is solely devoted to volleyball. It is called the volleyball house. I think it is weird that there is just a big place for volleyball. My friend Max goes almost every Friday and he has invited me and I think it is a ton of fun!! I am so sore the next day, I found out that I have muscles that I didn't know existed!

There is a place called the Ice House close by our house. After institute everyone goes to watch hockey. I know nothing about hockey but it is really fun to watch. We have a favorite team called Scurvy that we have seen play a few times. We have nicknames for all of our favorite players and they have come to expect us at their games. It is a lot of fun and I have a lot more respect for them after I attempted ice skating last week. It is HARD.

So that is what I have been doing the past few weeks. I don't do anything really exciting, but I thought I should post something before Charisse.

Nothing Much

It's been a while since I posted last. A few things have happened in the last couple months. The first thing is that I'm not engaged any more. I am planning on moving back to Utah this summer. I haven't really decided when but I am going to figure that out in the near future.
I had my first business trip in March. I was helping with the USRA Annual Symposium and the 40th anniversary. It was in D.C. and they got me my own room. I stayed in the Grand Hyatt where the first two meeting were. It was a very nice hotel and I got paid to be there. It was very exhausting but it was fun. There was a big fight between the 4 people I work with. Two of them on one side and two on the other. It was very annoying and Dad had to threaten them with their jobs when they got back. It still isn't always the best working environment but its much better now than when we first got back.
I went to a Yankees/Orioles game. It was fun but I didn't realize that professional baseball players didn't hit the ball very often. I got a few pictures but they weren't on my camera so I don't have them anymore. That's ok though because the Yankees lost that night. I went to the wrong game! The Yankees beat the Orioles the next game so I jinxed them by my presence. Which is what usually happens anyway.
That is pretty much the extent of my life in the past two months. Nothing terribly exciting.

Valentines Day

This Valentines Day was exceptional! It was very very fun. Eric and I went to Scranton, Pennsylvania to see Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It was amazing! The actors were so talented. They were the cast, orchestra, (a violin, cello, flute, piano, clarinet, tuba, trumpet, and a guitar) and stage crew. They all could play at least two of the instruments and would switch off with another character when they were acting. But sometimes they wouldn't switch and the actor would be singing, playing their instrument, and dancing around. It was crazy!
We also ate dinner at the theater before we saw the play and we were very grateful to be members of the church. The only thing that these people had in common was drinking and smoking. We were the only couple who didn't drink with our dinner or smoke afterwards. We learned about all the best bars in Scranton and New York. After dinner we had dessert and they all had to have their coffee. We were very grateful that we could do without those things and we weren't even tempted to participate.

Officially Employed

I am now a full-time employee at USRA. I still do the same things but I get insurance now! It is pretty exciting. I stay pretty busy at work and I'm glad that it I am officially and employee. Now they can't say "well you don't need to come in anymore". This way I know that I have a job until I get married!

A ring on my finger and bells on my toes!!

I now have a ring!! This picture is not exactly what it looks like but I figured that this would be better than you not seeing anything. The only difference is that the main diamond is a princess cut instead of a round one. So if you kind of squint a little bit then it looks just like my ring:) I will add more pictures later once I get batteries in my camera.
This is Eric's perspective on proposing to me. I had to change a few things because he remembered them a little bit wrong. But here is the story...

Sarah and I were honest about pretty much everything when we first started dating. I must say, honesty and communication can go a long way in a relationship. It wasn’t too long after we met that we started dating; and it wasn’t too long after we started dating that we were talking about marriage. It began with just casual talk about marriage in general, a conceptual idea really. Slowly, it turned into “if we got married, then…” type statements.

Then one Sunday night, we were driving from my house to hers. I looked at her and could tell she was worried or concerned about something. We decided to pull over and discuss it rather than small talk it while driving. Once again, honesty and communication are two things you cannot do without.

As we sat in the car, I looked at her and said, “Sarah, I want to marry you, I really do. Will you marry me?”

She wrapped her arms around me and gave me a big hug. After about ten seconds of silence I said, "Well will you?" She laughed and pulled away and said "yes".

Over the next week or three I looked and looked at rings. She wanted it to be a surprise, but had four requirements: yellow gold, no colored stones, princess cut, and not a three stone ring. I kept reminding her over and over, again and again, that due to my unemployment, she wouldn’t be getting her engagement ring for a few months. All the while, I had every intention of buying it and surprising her before then. (But don’t tell her that).

Last week, we were at Arundel Mills mall feeding her Chili’s desert addiction, when we decided to go look at a jewelry store. She didn’t know that I had already purchased her ring and it was being sized and customized to have a princess cut center stone rather than a round stone.

Morty, the salesman at the jewelry store, was pulling out all of the tricks he could muster. She tried on a few rings and finally picked one she loved. The one that looked exactly like the one I picked out was not the one she loved, it was her second choice though. The one she loved was a marquise cut stone. I know, tough luck for me right?

I sat on the bench waiting for her to come out of the bathroom. She came out and sat on my lap. “Sarah,” I said, “I have a confession.”

“What is it?”

“I already bought your ring; it is being sized right now and should be here in three to five weeks. However, it isn’t the one you picked because it is a princess cut, not a marquise.”

She hugged me tightly and said, “That’s ok babe! I will love whatever you get me, I promise.”

“Really? Ok good.” Then we left. Little did she know, it would be arriving in two days. I made sure to remind her a few more times it wouldn’t be here for three to five weeks.

I got up at nine on Saturday morning to be sure I wouldn’t miss the FedEx delivery of the ring. Sure enough, at ten-thirty it came. By that point my mom and sister were sitting on the couch with me, the doorbell woke them up. They were just as excited as I was when I opened it. Both of them tried it on and loved how it sparkled. I couldn’t wait to see Sarah later that afternoon.

Later that afternoon, I was planning on going to Sarah’s house. My plan, since I started looking at rings, was to knock on her door as usual, but be on one knee with the ring when she answered. I imagined it working out rather well. When I called her, she thought it would be good to meet in the middle again and go to my house before we left to the basketball game we were attending. That ruled out my plan.

Back up: we will go to the park down the street from my house and I would drop to my knee as we walked around the path. She loved the idea of walking, but not in the park. We ended up driving to Westminster, parked by the Pour House, walked two blocks before freezing, and got back into the car. There went another plan.

We decided to go to the Starbucks and get some hot cocoa. While pulling up to an intersection, I told her to go left. “You know,” she said, “it would be a lot easier to remember which way is left if I had ring on my finger.”

“Oh really, you think that might help do you?” I considered pulling out the ring then, by this point it was burning a hole in my coat pocket. “Well, you’ll just have to wait three to six weeks.”

“Three to six? I thought you said three to five.”

“It needs to be a surprise. Now that you know I bought it, I need to have a good window of time to surprise you with it.”

Reluctantly, she made the turn and drove into the strip mall with the Starbucks and parked.

“So….” I hesitated to say anything. I already proposed once in the car, I didn’t want the real proposal to be in the car too.

“Shoot, I was going to ask you something, but I can’t remember.”

“I do. It was ‘Will.’”

“Will,” I repeated.

“‘You.’”

“You.”

“‘Marry.’”

“Marry,” I repeated again.

“‘Me.’”

“Me. ‘Will you marry me?’ Are you sure that was it?”

“Yep, it was,” she replied

“Oh yeah, you are right.” I reached into my pocket, and I opened the little velvet box. “Sarah, will you marry me?”

“Are you serious? You lied to me!” She hit me, she pulled out the ring, and handed it to me to put on her finger, and then she wrapped her arms around me and said, “Heck yes I will!”

I guess I'll cheer for the Ravens

Unfortunately the Redskins did not make it very far. The beginning of the season was great...and then I started cheering for them and of they started loosing. (I tend to have that effect) So the Ravens are Erics team and I decided to cheer for them since my newfound team is not playing. I haven't ever been in a state that has an NFL team and now there are two teams separated by about 40 miles, and we are in the middle. I guess I will cheer for the Ravens (they will probably loose now) but if it is ever between the Ravens and the Redskins I will definately choose the Washington Redskins.

Yea!!! I'm Engaged!...continued

I am engaged everyone. His name is Eric Stephens. We met at institute in the beginning of November. He tracked down my number and invited me to go to Baltimore with a lot of people from institute to go see Madagasgar 2. We had fun but I didn't think too much of the whole situation at the time. I was just out having fun. When I got back from Thanksgiving he asked if we could go on a date sometime. I thought that it would be fun just to go have dinner and see One Man Star Wars Trilogy. (Which was so funny)
He asked me if I wanted to start dating while he was back from BYU-I. So we decided to start dating and then three weeks later we were sitting in the car talking about our future and what we thought would happen. And he decided that it would be a good idea to ask me right then and there. So that is the story of our engagement. :)
Eric moved to Maryland when he was 10 from Logan, UT. He served his mission in Everett, WA. (despite the fact that I didn't believe him) He is an English Lit major hoping to get a PhD or two and wants to teach college writing/english. He started dating this girl named Sarah and now he is going to marry her. His oldest brother Danny was just sworn into the army in Oklahmoa. Danny and his wife are expecting their fourth baby in May. His brother Cory who is married to Charisse. Which will add to the confusion of our children (two uncle Brians, two uncle Corys, and two aunt Charisses). Gina, a younger sister, is in Disney World on an internship. Lynsey is the youngest, and probably the funniest, she is a 14 year old freshman. Eric is the cream of the oreo in his family, the middle child... and he acts like it too.
Well that is a little info about my dear sweet hot fiance.
